Over the last few years, we have started adding a number of board books to our Holy Heroes collection! While we have been slowly adding them over the years, with the new addition of my two nieces this spring (!!!), I thought I would break down our board book collection!
While each book is intended for different purposes, they are all made to last through many children. These books have all be tested by my oldest niece (who at 3 is now beginning to transition to picture books) and they have withstood being packed in diaper bags, brought to Mass, shared with friends at the park, and more!
All You Holy Women, Pray for Us
Our newest Board Book–perfect for little girls! This little book includes eight female saints to inspire the youngest girls on their path to holiness. St. Josephine Bakhita, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, St. Kateri Tekakwitha, and others are illustrated with adorable cartoon portraits and accompanied by short poems that describe their virtues. This is a great way to introduce young children to some best-loved female saints!
This book introduces toddlers to the heavenly visitors who have appeared to saints still on earth. Illustrated by long-time Holy Heroes illustrators Chris Pelicano and Caroline Spinelli, this book describes the appearances of the Angel Gabriel, Our Lady of Guadalupe, Our Lady of Fatima, and Jesus Himself! Moms love the beautiful poems and children love the clear and colorful illustrations. This board book is a great way to help little ones realize how important and special these moments are in Church history when the heavenly Church came down to the earthly Church. (Oh: and our coloring books have some of these pictures, too, so your older kids can color them–and have some great discussions about the wonder of these visits from Heaven!)
New from Katie Warner, this board book includes a dozen scriptural verses that your child should learn! This is an easy way to introduce your child to Scripture memorization in an easy and gentle way. Each verse is paired with an image to help keep a little child’s attention as you read the words of Scripture.
Illustrated by beloved Catholic artist Tomie dePaola, this book is an oversized board book–so cute! This is the story of how God created and cares for the earth, including all the birds, animals, and plants. With large, full-page illustrations, this story will capture the attention of children even after they have outgrown board books.
A Little Catholic’s Book of Liturgical Colors
By far the favorite of the Holy Heroes’ nieces, this board book was awarded the Catholic Writers Guild Seal of Approval! With bright illustrations accompanying a sweet poem, this board book introduces Catholic children to the liturgical seasons and colors. The poem explains the symbolic meaning behind each liturgical color in a way that children can understand! This book also includes two pages of other interesting facts about the different colors used during the Mass to help your child learn more about their Catholic faith!
All these board books are full color and are small enough to stick in a diaper bag for trips to the park or Sunday Mass! They are also great gifts for baby showers, baptisms, or 1st Birthdays!

Along with her younger sister, Lillian, in the first “Inside the Sacraments” DVD, Therese was the most-commented upon “Adventure Guide,” (and she was a big part of the second DVD on the Holy Mass)! Therese appeared in Glory Stories volume 12, “Codename: Cocol — Undercover for God.,” and she writes a bunch of the Holy Heroes quizzes, too. She is working with Anna and Clara on our Marian Consecration Family Adventure, and if you call our toll-free order number (1-855-879-2246) you might find her answering the phone!
