Trey and I are the only males in a household of females (now including Ruthless, our new little puppy–Ruthie for short).
And I often come home to find even more females than are related to me in the house. They’re planning a wedding shower or baby shower or dance at the parish or watching the 6-hour BBC Pride and Prejudice because we have it and it’s (of course) more fun to watch it with a group of…other females.
Recently, I was asked to review an online program aimed at men, helping to break through the tendency we guys have to get caught up in the world of “doing something” all the time to re-establish an open line to God…so that He can do something with us, everyday, as sons and brothers and husbands and fathers.
I spent a week using the short videos for morning prayer time at the start of my work day, and found it to be, indeed, excellent at speaking to me–my concerns, my preoccupations, my desires–through other men living in the same world I am.
Trey is now 17, so we’ll do it together this Lent Why don’t you try it yourself (if you’re a man reading this) or pass this on to the men in your life (if you’re not) as a guided Lenten program created specifically for the challenges to men today?
More info below, including the “learn more & sign up” button. Act right away. It begins on Feb 14th.

RISE™ is a collaboration of individuals and organizations that believe it’s time to cast a wide net to awaken today’s man. Our goal is simple: to use powerful media as a tool to present the true path to freedom and peace by challenging men to live the fullness of their vocation every day; at home, at work, and in their communities. We are not teaching theology, and this is not another boxed program. We are giving men a battle plan for daily living, and walking alongside them each day. When men understand their profound dignity as sons of God, and are re-oriented towards what really matters, the impact on themselves and those around them will be significant.
Men are encouraged to walk with a brother (friend/relative) through the 30-day challenge. In forming these relationships around a common battle, men will hold each other to a higher standard, and true Christian brotherhood will be born.
RISE is for every man, whether they’re just seeking, or have been well-formed, because it takes them deep into their own hearts, and challenges them to make what they’ve learned practical. The results are nothing but life-changing.

In 2007, he and his wife, Kerri, founded Holy Heroes–and their children stepped in to help shortly thereafter to create the online “Adventures” for Advent, Lent, Spiritual Adoption, and Marian Consecration.
