In our Diocese of Western North Carolina, 44 parishes have been gravely impacted by the hurricane.
Yesterday, I got in contact with one of these parishes in Linville, NC.
The priest and parish secretary have started calling every family on the faith formation roster and those that they have been able to reach have shared stark realities.
A week since the hurricane hit and flooding began, these families still do not have power or water and most have trees down or roads washed out that prevent them from leaving their homes or neighborhoods.
Time is of the essence–like I said, we are now over a week out since the hurricane and flooding began and there are still families with children in dire need of resources.
We have been assured: if we can get resources to this little parish, they will get these supplies to families (even if they have to hike them in).
Yesterday, I was able to buy sleeping bags, towels, and lighters (3 big requests from these families).
Now, I am working with a nearby parish to send an ENTIRE TRAILER with water, food, baby formula, fuel, camp stoves, and many more needed items.
Holy Heroes families have already raised over $20,000—can you SHARE this blog with friends and family to encourage them to donate as well?
HOW YOU CAN HELP:
1. Make an order now for anything at HolyHeroes.com
2. Add a “tip” at checkout (just below entering your billing address) and 100% of tips will go towards buying supplies that we know are getting through directly to people in crisis.
Can you join those parishes in praying for the deceased?
You can start praying right now for the souls of those who have died as a result of Hurricane Helene.
Start now, but plan to amplify your efforts from November 1-8 when there are special plenary indulgences that can be only offered for the poor souls in Purgatory.
Please–remember these recently departed souls in North Carolina and in our neighboring states.
While we are working to help those still living, we cannot be quick to forget those who have died.
Parishes, if you want to provide this prayer card to a large group, we will give you an automatic 30% discount. Please email customerservice@holyheroes.com for the code.

I am so sorry to hear that so many are affected by this tragedy. It has been painful to see the devastation and the fear that so many went through at the end of their lives. To know that so many are still without any of their basic necessities is a travesty. May God help you in your efforts to help those in need.
God bless you for all you do.
