Our diocese comprises all of the western half of North Carolina.

This is where flooding in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene is devastating.

Here’s how we’ve been affected and what we are doing:

After several days without power and only some minimal flooding in our area, we are fortunate.

In the nearly 20 years we have lived in North Carolina, the destruction to the west of us is the worst we have ever seen.

The intact areas of our Diocese are currently working to collect much-needed supplies to transport to Western North Carolina. Our parish is loading trucks with supplies.

But roads and bridges are collapsed so bringing help by truck can’t reach many who are without power, water, and communication. Friends of mine have not been able to reach family by phone, and thousands of people are unaccounted for.

Today, I have already been able to work with a friend to raise money, shop, and bring supplies to a location where they can be flown into inaccessible areas that have been decimated by the Hurricane. A group of volunteers leave on Wednesday to physically drive supplies like camp stoves and WATER to tough-to-reach areas (downside of flying in small planes–they can’t bring water since it’s too heavy).

I will be back at the store throughout the week, buying supplies and dropping them off at airdrop locations, the Diocesan Pastoral Center, our parish, and with individuals who have been cleared to drive into Western North Carolina to deliver aid.

If you are in another area of the country and want to help with supplies and want to know that your help is going directly to those who need it: simply leave a “tip” with any order you make a HolyHeroes.com, and we will use that money for local relief efforts that we know are getting through. This week, 100% of the tips we receive with any orders will go towards purchasing supplies for people impacted in our Diocese.

Thank you for your help and please pray–pray for those currently suffering, those on the ground working, and the repose of the souls of all who have lost their lives during this hurricane.
