In the upcoming days, the world will experience the Church’s traditions and practices surrounding the election of a new Supreme Pontiff. For children, this is an especially important time because it is an opportunity for us to assure them of the unbroken succession of the Papacy beginning with Saint Peter.

You won’t want to miss the resources we will release in the upcoming week–make sure you subscribe to the blog so you don’t miss them:

First, make sure your children know that the FIRST Pope was picked by Jesus Himself!

An easy way to do this is through our St. Peter audio drama–listen to the first 10 minutes below:

In this full length story, children will learn:

  • What the “Master of the Palace” was in the old Kingdom of David,
  • What special gift was given to the Master of the Palace–and WHO it was given to by Jesus during His time on earth,
  • Why the disciples (including Paul) believe Peter was the established leader of the Church following the Ascension,
  • The connection between Jonah and Peter,
  • Why Jesus paid the “temple tax” for Peter–and ONLY Peter,
  • and so much more!

For children who LOVE to color, make sure you download these FREE companion coloring pages so they can color along!

Now that your kids have learned how the first Pope was chosen, dive into how Popes are selected today!

In this timely picture book, children will discover the history of the papacy and how a new pope is chosen!

See inside the walls of the Sistine Chapel and watch from St. Peter’s Square as the whole Catholic Church waits to hear the words “Habemus papem—we have a pope!”

Through engaging pictures, this book explains:

  • how the Papacy was established by Jesus Christ during His time on earth,
  • how the cardinals elect a new Pope (and the role of the Holy Spirit in that process!),
  • a beautiful prayer for the Pope,
  • a glossary of Catholic vocabulary related to the Papacy,
  • and more!

We Have a Pope is a gorgeously illustrated children’s book by beloved author Katherine Bogner (All about Lent & Holy Week).

Now, you may be receiving questions from not just your children, but other family and friends about WHAT Catholic believe about the Papacy.

Created by renowned Catholic apologist Patrick Madrid, this book offers a tour-de-force refutation of 30 different biblical and historical arguments raised against the papacy.

Using Scripture, Church history, and common sense (with a dash of wit added for good measure), Patrick Madrid explains why these commonly believed “pope fictions” simply don’t hold water.

Fr. Ray Ryland, a former Protestant minister and now a Catholic priest, says, “In a very readable style, Pope Fiction catalogs and refutes those fictions charitably and completely. Had it been available when I first began to be drawn to the Church, my journey home would have been years shorter.”
