We are approaching the end of Lent which means RCIA candidates are finishing their preparation to enter the Church on Easter! This is an incredibly exciting occasion and should be treated as such!
If you have a friend or family member entering the Church this Easter, consider giving them a card or gift to commemorate this important occasion!
Here are some gift suggestions from the Holy Heroes Dad (who entered the Church on Easter in 1998)
Catholicism 101
Creator of the Great Adventure Timeline (used by Fr. Mike Schmitz in The Bible in a Year Podcast), Jeff Cavins also created a CD and DVD series that acts as an overview of important teachings of the Catholic Church.
With so much material to cover, RCIA classes often do not have time to cover every topic in depth so Jeff Cavins’ program is a perfect way to help new (and old!) Catholics delve into specific teachings and traditions! There’s NOTHING like this: all the components of the Faith are explained in a framework that makes everything come together!
With both a CD option and DVD option, this program is perfect for any type of learner! Plus–you can select individual sections of the program if there is a certain topic that interests you!
Prayer Prompt Cards
Though originally created for children, we kept hearing from more and more adults that these Prayer Prompt Cards have born great fruit in their prayer lives!
Based on the Daily Examen of Saint Ignatius, each card is a guided preparation of your day and review at its end with specific prompts for Lent, Easter, Advent/Chrstmas, and Ordinary Time.
Simply select the “Prayer Prompt” card that matches the current season and select from the prompts the ones that best speak to you during the day.
Whether you like to pray at the beginning of the day or end of the day, or both, these “prompt cards” will help.
One side is for morning to open your heart and mind to God’s daily plans for you, the other for your evening examen to contemplate what He offered and how you responded.
These are great aids for new Catholic who are striving to cultivate a prayer life that follows along the liturgical seasons.
The Rosary of Pope John Paul II
Small enough to fit in a purse or briefcase, this beautiful prayer book is a perfect introduction to the Rosary!
Complete with excerpts from Pope John Paul II’s Apostolic Letter, Rosarium Virginis Mariae, Scripture passages and directed meditations, as well as beautiful artwork for each Mystery. A beautiful and practical guide to contemplating the Joyful, Luminous, Sorrowful, and Glorious Mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
“An excellent guide to praying the rosary in the way given to us by one of its greatest champions–Pope St. John Paul II! The graces offered through the gift of the rosary cannot be overstated. I am confident the prayerful meditation on it through The Rosary of Saint John Paul II will prove fruitful to many.”

How to Make a Good Confession
Let’s be honest: confession can be intimidating to a life-long Catholic. For new Catholics, sound resources can make all the difference in beginning to make this sacrament a frequent habit.
This book has helped many, many Catholics gain a greater understanding and appreciation for the sacrament of Confession and it continues to be a best-seller!
This slim volume:
- Includes a whopping 17-page examination of conscience–always opens my eyes and the list is written so as not to destroy the innocence of a teen while being clear to an adult (if you know what I mean)
- Details the three essential elements to a good confession
- Lists the steps of an ordinary confession (who says what when)
- Provides three Acts of Contrition you can carry with you into the confessional
And Father Kane shows you how — before you ever enter the confessional — you can awaken in yourself those attitudes of mind that will enable you to quickly identify your sins (particularly the hidden ones), grow truly sorry for them, and do your penance as God wants it done.
Better yet: he shows you how sustaining these attitudes in your soul between confessions will protect you from new sins and ward off the worry and discouragement that afflict us all.
