Our newest Catholic picture book is…wordless!
Wondering how I came up with this idea for my next book? I wrote a blog post about it here (and interviewed the illustrator and long-time Holy Heroes artist)!
Now, perhaps you are wondering what the purpose of a wordless book is? Does it count as “reading”?
Wordless Books are important for a few reasons:
- Wordless books help kids become more observant since they must focus on every aspct of a picture to learn the story!
- Wordless books help kids learn about the importance of a story arc because it is visually laid out for them step-by-step!
- Wordless books help remove the pressure from children who are struggling with reading–they can enjoy an entire story without reading a word!
- Wordless books help children understand the importance of images and art in story telling!
These are just a few of the many reasons that wordless books are so important for kids!
Another wonderful aspect of wordless books is they lead to natural conversations about the story between kids and their parents.
Since this wordless book features a Catholic family, those conversations can become natural ways for you to teach the faith at home to even the youngest child!
Here are some questions that we shared over on Instagram that might be helpful:
