A Mother Mary Loyola Classic…available for a new generation of children and their parents!

This beloved catechetical tool (most often used to prepare children for 1st Communion) has been used by generations of teachers and parents to instill habits of personal devotion to Our Lord and love for the Eucharist in children.

The Holy Heroes Family has used this book throughout various homeschooling and sacramental prep stages and are thrilled to make it available to our fans! PLUS, we have also created a companion Discussion Guide with short but fruitful questions to help spark conversations after each chapter!

What is The King of the Golden City?

This story was written by Mother Mary Loyola over 100 years ago. The story of a little maid and the gracious King who deigned to visit her has been used as a catechetical tool–what the author calls a sort of game of “Hide and Seek.” Here’s what she wrote in her dedication of the book:

“The story was written for a little friend of mine who wanted a tale with a hidden meaning which she was to find out. At one time or other we have all played at ‘Hide and Seek.’ I have done the hiding here: you will do the seeking.”

This book was written to the “dear children of America,” and it is still a beautifully rich allegory to help young Catholics understand their relationship with God and how this relationship should guide their lives.

The edition we are selling is fabulous! Printed on beautiful paper with the original illustrations, this is a gorgeous read aloud book for parents to share with their children!

Now when you read aloud King of the Golden City, use this discussion guide to kick start a conversation with your children! We hope this helps everyone in their game of ‘hide & seek’ as they read!

PS—The book was originally written about a little girl, and most children enjoy it just as it is. However, if you have a little boy who would rather read about a boy…well, we do have a version that has been “translated” just for boys. It is a paperback, so not as beautiful or sturdy as the hardcover original above, but it will still withstand repeated readings. You can buy it here.
