New Marian Feast: Mary, Mother of the Church [free coloring page]

In 2018, a new feast day was added to the Church’s calendar…The Feast of Mary, Mother of the Church! Now, it falls on the Monday after Pentecost Sunday every year!

This year, the Feast of Mary, Mother of the Church falls on June 6th, 2022.

This title for Our Lady has deep theological meaning.

Jesus Christ gave His Mother as the Mother of all Christians from the Cross and this new feast celebrates this beautiful reality.

The image of Mary, Mother of the Church is a mosaic that was installed in St. Peter’s Square in 1981 with the blessing of Pope John Paul II shortly after the assasination attempt that nearly killed him.

The (now Saint) Pope John Paul II said that he hoped this mosaic of the Mother of the Church would be a source of comfort to all visitors to St. Peter’s for many years to come.
