Did you know Our Lady visited Wisconsin in 1859 with a message for our country?
Born in Belgium, Adele Brise immigrated to the United States with her family and settled in Wisconsin on a 240-acre farm. A few years after she arrived, Adele was walking to the mill. It was a long 4-mile walk carrying bags of wheat to be milled into four. While it was hard work, Adele loved her walks through the woods.
When she returned from the mill with fresh flour, Adele was suddenly startled by a strange light in the trees. As she watched, the blinding light slowly began to change into the shape of a woman! Shocked, Adele backed away and ran home.
Out of breath, Adele told her family about the strange encounter. They were unsure what to make of this occurrence and suggested Adele speak to their parish priest. On Sunday, Adele was walking to Mass with her sister and neighbor and when she approached the same place in the woods, she once again saw the bright light and woman! Puzzled, the other two women could not see anything.
Once they arrived at the parish, Father Verhoef listened to Adele’s story. Once she was finished, he said, “Do not be troubled by this vision. It will not harm you. It it is from God, you will see it again, and when you do, you must ask, ‘In God’s name, who are you and what do you desire of me?”
Comforted, Adele began her walk home through the woods…watch the video below to find out what happened next from our Glory Story audio drama:
The message Our Lady proceeded to give Adele would change her life forever.
In her very short apparition, Our Lady made a simple request for Adele: “Teach the children…teach them their catechism.”
