In 2001, the Vatican approved a devotion and counterpart for the Stations of the Cross for the Easter Season!

While Catholics meditate on Christ’s Passion and Death during Lent through the Stations of the Cross, the Stations of the Resurrection offer meditations on the events from Easter Sunday through the entire Easter Season.

The Congregation for Divine Worship tells us that, “Using the metaphor of a journey, the Via Lucis (Stations of the Resurrection) moves from the experience of suffering, which in God’s plan is part of life, to the hope of arriving at man’s true end: liberation, joy and peace which are essentially paschal values. The Via Lucis is a potential stimulus for the restoration of a ‘culture of life’ which is open to the hope and certitude offered by faith, in a society often characterized by a culture of death, despair, and nihilism.”

The 14 Stations of the Resurrection are:

  1. Jesus Rises from the Dead
  2. The Disciples Find the Tomb Empty
  3. Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene
  4. Jesus on the Road to Emmaus
  5. Jesus Reveals Himself in the Breaking of Bread
  6. Jesus Shows Himself Alive to the Disciples
  7. Jesus Gives the Power to Forgive Sins
  8. Jesus Strengthens the Faith of Thomas
  9. Jesus Meets His Disciples by the Sea of Tiberias
  10. Jesus Confers the Supremeacy upon Peter
  11. Jesus Gives His Disciples the Universal Mission
  12. Jesus Ascends to Heaven
  13. Waiting for the Holy Spirit with Mary
  14. Jesus Sends the Holy Spirit

NOW–perhaps you are wondering HOW to pray the Stations of the Resurrection? We created a few resources to help you start this devotion!

First, we created a NEW Stations of the Resurrection prayer booklet and they JUST arrived in the office! Formatted like our Stations of the Cross prayer booklet, this NEW prayer aid has everything you need to pray the Stations of the Resurrection with your family! This prayer booklet includes:

  • The 14 Stations of the Resurrection
  • Introduction and “How to pray the Stations of the Resurrection.”
  • Classic Sacred Art to accompany each Station
  • Concluding prayer is “The Praises to be Said at All the Hours” by St Francis of Assisi (perfect for the Year of St. Francis!)

Second, our Stations of the Resurrection posters are a perfect companion to our Stations of the Cross posters. After Holy Week, you can replace your Stations of the Cross posters with these stunning Stations of the Resurrection posters. Such a wonderful way to tie the sorrowful events of Lent into the joy of the Easter Season!

BONUS: our new Stations of the Resurrection booklet includes the artwork from the Posters!

Third, many families enjoy using our Road to Calvary coloring book to color along with the Stations of the Cross during Lent.

We created a similar coloring companion for the Stations of the Resurrection–a perfect way for young children to follow along with this devotion!

This 30-page download includes:
  • directions for how to pray the Stations of the Resurrection,
  • 14 Scripture citations,
  • 14 coloring pages (perfect to engage little kids!),
