Professional photos are a pivotal part of the Very Young Catholic Project.
Emily, the creator and author of the Project, had a very intentional reason for wanting these 90-100+ page volumes to be filled with photographs.
Emily sent this message to share further the WHY behind the photographs:
In writing the Very Young Catholic series, I wanted the books to be beautiful and real, so that the child reader could imagine that other child’s life. That means I need great photographs.
I take a lot of trouble finding photographers for each book. I either take a photographer with me, especially where there is a language issue, or I review portfolios for photographers in the children’s location.
For example, the photographer for the Canada book worked at the children’s location, while the photographer for the Iceland book traveled with me. Both did a wonderful job and there are always far more pictures than I can use which is why the new online program is so great! Now, there will be a place where I can share them!
In Fiji, for example, I got a shot of all the little first graders lining up to brush their teeth after school lunch. They all bring a bottle of water, toothpaste, and a toothbrush, and they spit in the grass. In the end, it didn’t get into the book, but it’s a lively scene. Our little girl from Very Young Catholics in Fiji is the second from the left.
The beauty of the books seems to reach my readers’ hearts. Whether the family is rich or poor, city or country, sea or farmland, there is beauty. The photographs put that beauty on full display!

We have also shared a sample 2-page printable and a preview of the “Ask Emily” column where your kids will be able to send in questions related to travel, culture, and the Catholic Church!
This monthly program will last 3-4 years so your kids will have many opportunities to send in their questions!
You can enroll today for just $40 (that breaks down to less than $1 per month for years of monthly content)!
And don’t forget–every enrollment comes with a complimentary copy of Very Young Catholics in Argentina (a 90+ page volume that usually costs $21.95).
