As Raising Chaste Catholic Men: Practical Advice, Mom to Mom quickly becomes the run away best-seller of this summer (psstt–check out last year’s best seller HERE), author and mother of eight Leila Miller shares some insight into what made her write this expanded second edition:
Okay my friends, before we dive into the book, I want to tell you a few things that this book is not.
This is not a general Catholic parenting book. Others have done that and done it well.
This is not a book about teaching manners, or social graces, or any of life’s niceties (of which I am very much in favor, by the way).

This is not a book about how to raise Catholic gentleman per se, although I have said more times than I can count, “I will raise Catholic gentlemen if it kills me!” But while not about raising gentlemen generally, this or any book promoting male chastity will touch upon it, because chastity and gentlemanliness coincide.
This is not a book on the basics of Catholic teachings. Althought this is a Catholic book, both the discussion and advice herein presuppose that you are already a practicing, faithful Catholic and that your children are being raised in the Catholic faith.
This is not a book that represents, denies, or usurpts the father’s role in the life of a boy/teen/young man. The importance of a father in a young man’s life cannot be overstated. Fathers and other male role models are crucial for forming boys into good men. However, the only people who have asked me to write on this subject are some, and it’s something I can approach only from a woman’s perspective.
This book is not a statement that I have somehow figured it all out, and that I am an expert on the subject of raising chaste young men…in raising sons, I have noticed some things have worked for us and could probably work for others.
So what IS in this book? This is a book of practical advice, mom to mom, about how you and I can both raise chaste Catholic men. Let us begin…
