Enthroning the Sacred Heart in your home is such a beautiful Catholic devotion that we hope more families will participate in! We even created this stunning Sacred Heart Enthronement Print to make it even easier.

Christ appeared to Saint Mary Margaret many times to reveal His Love for all mankind and how much He wanted her to spread devotion to His Sacred Heart.

Once He said to her: “Look at this heart which has loved people so much, and yet they do not want to love Me in return. Through you, My divine Heart wishes to spread its love everywhere on earth.”

Jesus made many promises to her and to all those who honor His Sacred Heart. Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque tells us that He made twelve powerful promises to those who made the “First Friday Devotion” to His Sacred Heart.

This devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus consists of receiving Holy Communion for nine consecutive first Fridays for nine consecutive months. This devotion must be carried out with great love for Jesus and in reparation for those souls who reject Him.

These promises are below. Ponder them with your children!

“I will give them all the graces necessary for their state in life.”

–What is your state in life–as a child, a parent, a spouse, a student, a friend? Think about what your primary role and responsibility is in service to others, then talk to Jesus about how He wants you to fulfill this state in life right now.

“I will give peace in their families.”

–How is He trying to do that for your family? How can you cooperate?

“I will console them in all their troubles.”

–He recognizes our troubles and difficulties–and asks that we turn to Him in prayer and recognize the consolations He gives us in the events of every day…if we pay attention.

“They shall find in my heart an assured refuge during life and especially at the hour of death.”

–We must keep death always before us, recognizing that this is the gateway to everlasting life.

“I will pour abundant blessings on all their undertakings.”

–What does He ask us to undertake? He will bless everything He asks of us!

“Sinners shall find in my heart the source of an infinite ocean of mercy.”

–Mercy is more than forgiveness. Rather, it is how God transforms our hearts! (Find plenty of resources for families and children about God’s mercy here.)

“Tepid souls shall become fervent.”

–Wouldn’t we all like to become more energized and emboldened in our faith?

“Fervent souls shall speedily rise to great perfection.”

–We are all called to holiness, to become perfect as our Heavenly Father is perfect.

“I will bless the homes in which the image of my Sacred Heart shall be exposed and honored.”

–We found a lovely Sacred Heart statue and have seen beautiful pictures which could be placed in a home. Go to your local Catholic store and ask!

“I will give to priests the power to touch the most hardened hearts.”

–What priest can you offer this devotion to support? This is a wonderful way to help the priests who bring us the Sacraments.

“Those who propagate this devotion shall have their name written in my heart and it shall never be effaced.”

–Tell Jesus: sign me up!

“The all-powerful love of My Heart will grant to all those who shall receive communion on the first Friday of nine consecutive months the grace of final repentance; they shall not die under My displeasure, nor without receiving the sacraments; My heart shall be their assured refuge at the last hour.”

–Isn’t this worth the time for your family?

You can begin your family’s devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus with the Nine First Fridays Devotion (if you’ve already missed this month’s First Friday, begin next month)! This is a beautiful way for your family to grow closer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus!
