Receive a plenary indulgence every Friday during Lent by reciting the Prayer before a Crucifix

This beautiful prayer asks us to fix our hearts and minds on the sufferings of our Crucified Lord. This is incredibly moving during the season of Lent, especially when done between the hours of 12pm and 3pm (when Jesus hung on the Cross).

Like all plenary indulgences, you can offer the indulgence for yourself or for another person.

Choosing to offer this plenary indulgence for another person is a beautiful form of spiritual almsgiving for a young child who is not able to offer a monetary donation during Lent.

Psstt–wondering how to explain almsgiving to your children? We have a 3-page coloring download to help you explain the 3 Pillars of Lent. Click HERE to get the download.

*as always, this plenary indulgence is granted under the usual conditions:

  •  have sacramentally confessed their sins;
  •  receive the Holy Eucharist (it is certainly better to receive it while participating in Holy Mass, but for the indulgence only Holy Communion is required);
  •  pray for the intentions of the Pope

The Confession and Holy Communion can take place within 20 days of the indulgence.

One sacramental Confession suffices for several plenary indulgences, but a separate Holy Communion and a separate prayer for the Holy Father’s intentions are required for each plenary indulgence.
