We are unveiling the secret Rosary project that we have been working on since August…
A child’s first awareness of God’s love is the love of a mother for her child.
A child’s first experience expressing love is the love for his mother.
Every child is enthralled by that bond God grants each of us.
So praying with Our Blessed Mother about her love for her Son and her Son’s love for her makes the Holy Rosary instinctively attractive to a child.
But-but-but:
We moms know from trying to teach this prayer that there are obstacles to be overcome and the instinctive childlike attraction can quickly be lost!
- Children are interested in prayer, but the Rosary prayers seem…uninteresting.
- The titles of the Mysteries are big words…ominous and abstract.
- The beads are confusing and hard to handle…and getting lost is easy.
The family rosary dilemma:
Engage the littlest ones in family prayer time…or at least minimize the distraction to others which they can cause!
That’s why we embarked on a secret rosary project in August, enlisting 175 moms with children 4-5 years old to help us. (Yes, most had older kids, too!)
At last–here is the fruit of our efforts:
A Little Catholic’s First Rosary Book
A book suitable for ages 4-8,
but moms tell us the “sweet spot” is children 5-6 years old.
Engage your child “bead-by-bead” through the family rosary:
The Mysteries come alive
as every bead is a picture,
and every picture is a prayer!
One mom told us:
“I’ve never seen anything like this, but it makes so much sense. A genius idea!”
Sandra Rosetter (the author) explains how she and her sister, Stacey LeNeave (the illustrator) developed the concept:
“This book grew from a desire to help young children remain engaged while praying the Rosary, enabling them to develop a genuine love for this beautiful devotion. To do this, we ‘tell’ the story of each Mystery ‘Bead by Bead’ in ten consecutive pictures: one for each prayer…It is our fond hope that this prayer book helps to develop your child’s prayer life (and maybe yours, too!)”
Children love having their very own prayer book!
Even before they can read words, they can read pictures.
Children can recognize the prayer from the picture.
We show them the “big picture” of how things fit
And the “decade-by-decade” picture, too!
And while they will become acquainted with the proper title of each Mystery,
they will also get a short definition (which you can read to them).
Within each Mystery, the story unfolds in 10 colorful illustrations
Follow the orange bead along the top of each page–never get lost!
It’s a great help in teaching how to pray with beads.
Children will ponder all that happens in each Mystery
Lots to meditate upon in their hearts and imaginations!
For example, when Jesus is born…
But meanwhile outside the stable…
Sized large enough for little eyes and hands,
yet still small enough to fit in a purse.
Moms told us to spiral coil-bind it with durable pages, so it lays flat and will last!
