“What do you want to be when you grow up?”
It’s the question we love to ask our children at an early age.
Here’s a question we parents might want to ask ourselves:
“How can I gently and lovingly help my children discern what God is calling them to be?”
And here’s a beautiful answer:
Read So Many Ways to Be Holy: A Child’s Book about Vocations with your child.
As you can see, the wonderful pictures capture the joy that is to be found in all kinds of vocations — from being an artist, a doctor, or an astronaut to becoming a priest, a brother, or a nun.
And the words accompanying the pictures are just as lovely.
Take a quick look at this video of Caroline reading it to Virginia’s college roommate’s little boy (and his sister hops in and out of the frame!). He had a lot to tell her about the pictures, then we got a call that he told his dad all about it that evening. So cute!
So Many Ways to Be Holy will help you teach your child:
Who the patron saints of various professions are (did you know that the patron saint of scientists is St. Albert the Great?)
And this helpful prayer:
God, send Your Holy Spirit
to help me become the person
You made me to be;
to listen for Your call;
and to answer with a glad heart.
Amen
