My family has always had great evenings and rainy afternoons of family games.

Family games are a great way to bring siblings closer, to open up conversation informally, and to listen to what is on peoples’ minds–while also bonding everyone together with shared experiences and laughter.

The kids still at home spontaneously grab several games on weekends (and afternoons if schoolwork is done!) and whenever those-who-have-left-the-house (like me–for college, marriage) return, the games come out.

With these four games below, we’ve found ways to gently immerse the whole family in a Catholic culture and to inspire discussions about the Faith from the younger ones, too.

See which of the below can help you elevate your Family Game Night with games that teach aspects of the Catholic faith!

#1–Card games are HUGE in our family (from grandma to the new-ish husbands to the teens & pre-teens).

We have a constant rotation of go-to card games (Spoons and Nuts are some of the crowd favorites).

Why not “baptize” these games with our Holy Heroes Rosary Edition Playing Cards? These are real playing cards! Perfect for upcoming holiday gatherings, we’ve given them a subtle “twist” to transition a casual card game into an opportunity to evangelize family and friends. My brother-in-law, Nate, uses them for his poker night every month with his friends–Catholic, Protestant, whatever.

What did we do?

Each suit corresponds to a set of mysteries of the Rosary, and the face cards are the Holy Family.  So, for the Joyful Mysteries (the hearts), you’ll find the Queen (Blessed Mother) is visibly pregnant, and the King (Jesus) is a child! Saint Joseph is the Jack, and you’ll see how the design suits him (!) to the mysteries. I especially love the Luminous Mysteries (clubs): the Queen adores the Eucharist!

#2–Looking for more of a board game? I can’t encourage you enough to get this one: The Road to Bethlehem, a strategic, scenario-based board game that was a European bestseller and now available here! This game was so good that my mom even wrote a review!

This game is a big hit with our family (they played it twice in the past 3 days–once with the siblings, once with some friends who came over for an afternoon).

Caroline was very excited to meet the creator of the game at a conference this past summer! She especially liked sharing her favorite parts of the game and how many times she has won!

One of the biggest Catholic lessons from this game is that every single person is under the care of angels so this game is especially appropriate NOW as the Feast of the Archangels is coming on September 29 and the Feast of the Guardian Angels is October 2. And if you get the game now, you will almost three months to get good before introducing it to family and friends at Christmas parties!

#3–Don’t worry, we didn’t forget about the little ones! While the older kids and parents are busy with strategy games and cards, we have several options for the little folks. A great place to begin your Catholic game collection is the Holy Heroes Works for Mercy Card Game. Get ready for hours of fun with this card game that can be played four different ways! The Holy Heroes Adventure Guides even made a video about this game that you can check out below (it explains all 4-games-in-1):

#4–Another best-selling Holy Heroes product, the Holy Heroes Matching Game is a great memory game to introduce the Saints. Children can play the concentration memory game with these cards, inspiring their imaginations with stories of the saints pictured, the mysteries of the rosary from the images of Our Lord, and a special Holy Heroes Answer Kid card!

You can find other Holy Heroes games on our website, as well as gifts for all ages to make the Faith visible all-around your home.

Catholic games are a great way to immerse your family in the Faith at all times.

Remember: “families that pray together, stay together,” and we think you’ll find that “families that stay together, play together,” too!

Whether you are buying them for your family or friends, we hope that these games will help bring you the Joy of the Faith! God bless!
